Late 18th Century Northern European Painted Commode, Dated 1793

Three-drawer serpentine-front commode painted overall in a blue ground with polychrome decoration. Each drawer front features flanking panels of draped red swags and a central circular vignette within a laurel wreath — the top drawer inscribed “MS” above a rural landscape, the middle dated 1793 over a river scene, and the lower with a village and church. The top carries a matching oval medallion within a painted border. Brass ring pulls and keyhole escutcheons throughout. Bracket feet. Wear and paint loss consistent with age.
